UGL | Altrad have been awarded a contract for Brownfields Onshore Implementation Services for Woodside. Services to be provided include the detailed planning and execution of access, fire protection application, blasting and painting, cladding and insulation, mechanical, pipe-spool equipment replacement and electrical services.


The Role and Requirements

UAJV are seeking an experienced and technically sound HSE Lead to join our site team on the Karratha Gas Plant. The role will provide advice and support the Contract Manager in driving improvements in HSE performance through alignment and delivery of programs, and identification and management of HSE risks across the contract. The position also provides advice to support and maintain a safe and healthy workplace and for adherence to company policies and applicable laws, regulations and standards for the workplace..

This role is due to commence in January 2023 and attracts a fixed-term contract, with fulltime entitlements working 5 days on, 2 days off roster for those residing in karratha or a 2 week on. 2 week off roster for those FIFO. This position is also open for current local or residential employee willing to relocate to Karratha where excellent incentivise are available such as:

Main Activities

  • Provide advice and support to the management teams in driving improvements in HSE performance through alignment and delivery of programs, and identification and management of HSE risks across the contract
  • Liaison with appointed client HSE representative and escalation of any disputes to the JV management team
  • Ensure all project activities undertaken are designed, planned and carried out in accordance with relevant systems & process and comply with State and Federal regulations
  • Implementation and maintenance of HSEMP
  • Facilitate workshops to implement and foster improvement skills and culture across the project
  • Define performance expectations for employees and contractors and coach performance against these standards particularly around execution initiatives.
  • Actively participate and provide constructive feedback in all training programs provided
  • Ensure training and VOC records are kept up to date
  • Perform formal site audits and random inspections
  • Analyse HSE data, trends and management systems / processes performance, effectiveness and address areas of concern
  • Ensure practices adopted reflect a commitment to the highest standard in HSE aligned with the JV and customer organisations

Qualifications & Experience

To be successful in this position, you must possess resource industry experience along with:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ HSE advisory experience working in a high risk industry
  • A formal qualification in health and safety (minimum Certificate IV, Degree preferable)
  • Excellent knowledge of the relevant HSE legislation
  • Extensive auditing and investigatory experience
  • Hold a nationally accredited OHS Card (White/Blue Card)
  • Previous exposure to Scaffolding and/ or Painting and Insulation would be highly advantageous
  • Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships (both internally and externally).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.
  • Customer focused, team oriented, accountable and results driven
  • Ability to pass a project specific pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol screen
